RE: Wholphin:

I've been collecting the Wholphin DVD magazine since I found the 2nd "printing" of issues 1 and 2 at Best Buy. Despite the expense, I've not only found some great short and unusual films, but I've also managed to turn my wife and kids on to some of the pieces offered on each disc.

It would be great to read a tour de force review of all seven (to date) issues of Wholphin on the site.

Also - not sure if you're aware or not - there are a lot of other short films available at the Wholphin website too. Worth checking out if that's your thing. And since you run a film blog, I assume it is your thing.

PS: McSweeney's rocks. And Timothy McSweeney's Internet Tendency is still on my favorites list after all these years - even though they've refused to publish a single short short of mine in all this time.

My guess is O'Bannon is living off his Alien/Star Wars residuals, which is a shame.

And I really enjoyed Dark Star. Just a fun movie that was executed to near perfection. They certainly don't make them like that anymore.

Hey, a post on "Dark Star", what fun! Pre-CGI, when SF films still had charm. And look at the talents involved, Carpenter and O'Bannon (whatever happened to Dan?). Picked up a copy of the film (VHS) off eBay for about five bucks and had a ball watching it again after over 20 years. Thanks for this, brought back some fond memories...
