I know next to nothing about Mamoru Oshii’s latest film. What I do know is that he’s directed some pretty great animated films like Ghost in the Shell and The Sky Crawlers, and judging by the teaser for Assault Girls it should packed with plenty of sand whales, giant guns, angels, Lucifer and cute Japanese girls kicking ass. Really, what more from a fantasy film do you honestly need?

I was a huge fan of Oshii’s Avalon, and I was thrilled to discover that many parts of the movie were filmed where I live. I love watching the movie nowadays and recognizing the locations and the Polish actors.

Visually exciting with intriguing ideas and, yes, cute chicks. But if it’s like any other Japanese film made in the last 40 years, it doesn’t make one single lickin’ fuck of g-d sense.
