I am totally a day late and a dollar short. I had to work early yesterday and I also wanted to finally swing by the comic book shop to pick up my comics for the past month. I really just wanted to pick up a trade from Top Shelf called Veeps, but evidently it isn’t coming out until next week.
For the second week in a row the theaters are flooded with 50,000 new releases, all of the potentially crappy. That being said, I am still interested in seeing Clint Eastwood’s latest effort Changeling, even though his last film was so awful it almost put me off his movies for good.
DVD releases are even tougher as they are limited AND crappy. I don’t care what buzz you heard about Transsiberian, it is truly terrible. Avoid it like the plague. Thus my DVD recommendation is for When Did You Last See Your Father, a film that I heard was good, but looks far too sappy for me to ever watch it for fear of crying like a 32 year old me tends to cry, in bunches.
As always trailers are after the break!

Well, I didn’t think a whole lot of Transibberian, but I certainly didn’t think it was terrible. The atmosphere was great and the story was compelling enough (until the end). Plus Emily Mortimer. Yeah.
Do look forward to a screening of Changeling though as well. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

Outside of the last two acts being an epic waste of my time, Transsiberian also represents the kind of Indie filmmaking I loathe. Gussied up mainstream crap marketed as Indie in an effort to cash in with the masses. Screw that.

Letters from Iwo Jima was so awful it almost put you off his movies for good?

Crap, I forgot about both those films, probably because I haven’t been all that interested in seeing either. The film that annoyed the hell out of me was Million Dollar Baby.
So my statement is almost sort of true, which is good enough for me.

Here lies blasphemy! I’ll trade you Transsiberian for the inferior Blindness, straight up. Plus you have to refund me the money I spent on Blindness.

Give Iwo Jima a shot if you ever find the time, Matt – a bit melodramatic, as one might expect, but a hell of a war film.

Daniel – Transsiberian is your first strike! Yeah, how do you like it now?!?!
Jonathan – I’ll get to it at some point as I’ve heard good things about it, but I’m not in much of a rush to watch it at this point.
