Thanks to word that Minneapolis based distributor Apparition is going to distribute the Australian neo-noir The Square here in North America I finally found an excuse to watch director Nash Edgerton’s short film Spider. I had heard good things about The Square, and I figured that his short might help give me an idea of what type of filmmaker Edgerton is.
Well, if The Square has as much malicious glee as Spider I could be in for a real treat.
Jack and Jill are always hurting each others feelings. But like Mum said, Its all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
You might remember that several months ago I posted a teaser for the short film Alma from director/animator Rodrigo Blass. Now, in the spirit of giving this holiday season, Blass has decided to post the full short film on Vimeo for all to see. Though after watching this fantastic short, you might think twice about opening some of your gifts.
How much do I like the short film Kiwi! from director/animator Dony Permedi? So much that I’ve decided to start up an entire feature based on highlighting other short films on the Internet. No idea how often I will post them, or just how I will find them, but after checking out this fantastic short I decided I needed to post it for as many people to see as possible and that it would be a great idea to feature other short films as well. Hope you enjoy!
Straight from Pepin, WI, Andrew from Row Three and I sit down and record a quick review of the Flyway Film Festival’s opening night Film, Ink. A fantasy epic sure sounds great, but will it hold up under an Indie budget? Survey says ….
Andrew and I hope to get a couple more micro-podcasts recorded throughout the Festival, either reviewing films or pulling aside some of the directors in attendance and having them talk about their films and the Festival itself. And if we are lucky, perhaps the enigmatic Jay Cheel of the illustrious Film Junk will join us for some of these as well. That is, if we can get some poutine in him before he goes into withdrawl.
Very little details have come out so far about the upcoming film The Shrine. Even the first teaser trailer for the film shows only the title of the film and nothing more, though the second teaser at least finally shows some actual scenes from the film, but with little more then that to go on. Luckily, there is at least a short plot synopsis floating around to lend a little help.
After a young American backpacker goes missing in Europe, a group of journalists link his disappearance to a remote Polish village called Alvaina. Upon further investigation, the journalists discover that Alvaina has a history of bizarre cult activity revolving around human sacrifice. Hellbent on revealing the truth, they travel to the small village to uncover the story first hand. But after the discovery of an ancient stone statue hidden within the town, they quickly find themselves pursued by a mysterious and vengeful group of locals. Forced into the gruesome reality of true survival horror, the journalists soon realize that Alvaina hides a much darker secret than they could ever imagine.
Human sacrifice? Hell bending? Poland? Sure its not actual dialogue but it sure sounds good enough to me! Now if only I knew when the heck this movie was actually coming out.
