Lots of new additions this week, and most of them look incredibly promising. Francis Ford Coppola’s newest film, Tetro, is possibly the most highly anticipated from the group, but The World’s Greatest Dad, Meserine: Part One and Somers Town look incredibly promising as well. Toss in Jerichow and a pair of documentaries, The End of the Line and Afghan Star, and you’ve got a pretty diverse group of films being added to the booking schedule. Hopefully they all stay on there and see a release.

A few updates this week. Management mysteriously falls off the booking sheet one week before its scheduled release, replaced by Tyson!, a rather lethargic documentary on enigmatic boxing star Mike Tyson. Summer Hours gets bumped up two weeks, and Whatever Works one week.
Their are some exciting new additions though. First is the documentary Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg which is about television pioneer Gertrude Berg. Still Walking is an acclaimed Japanese drama that is slated for a September release, while $9.99 is an Australian stop-motion film that looks very promising. But the biggest addition is the film Cold Souls, which has an absolute monster cast and a killer premise in the vein of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I can’t wait for a trailer for it to finally be released.

This year marks the 75th anniversary for the Edina Cinema and to commemorate it Landmark Theaters will have a special double feature presentation of It Happened One Night and Bride of Frankenstein on Sunday, August 30th, one day before the theater officially turns 75 years old. Over the years the theater has gone through many changes, originally starting out as a one screen before twice being split into multiple theaters but it has become a staple of the community and one of the best places to watch Independent and foreign films in the Twin Cities.
While there are no more specific details as of yet on the event, I’ll be sure to post updates as I find out about them. But there is strong backing from both Landmark and the community, so it should be a fantastic event once all is said and done.
