After.Life could be downright awful

by Matt Gamble on Mar.22, 2010, under Movies, Previews, Trailers

Or After.Life might not be terrible. Honestly, this trailer doesn’t make it look like their will be much middle ground with this strange high concept film. Plus Justin Long in a serious role just seems wrong on so many levels. And is it just me or does casting Christina Ricci as a dead girl seem particularly lazy? But then again, I’ve heard nothing but great things about director Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo’s short film Pâté, so once again I’m not sure which way I am leaning with this.

Chloe: Brilliant or trainwreck?

by Matt Gamble on Jan.22, 2010, under Movies, Previews, Trailers

My money is on trainwreck.

I didn’t know much about the film Chloe outside of the oddly fascinating yet congruently creepy poster, which is almost solely due to the fact that Amanda Seyfried is missing her goddamn nose in the thing. Oh sure its just a trick of light but try and deny that she doesn’t look like she escaped from Area 51 on that thing.

Anyways, I knew nothing other than the poster, and thus began a horrifying 2 minute journey through the international red band trailer for the film. In it I discovered that the film starred not only Amanda Seyfried, but Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson and it was directed by Atom Egoyan, a mix I wouldn’t wish on anything but the most egregious melodramas, and after sitting there slack-jawwed at what I was watching, I decided to do a little more research on the film.

You see, evidently Chloe is based on a French film called Nathalie…, in which a woman discovers that her husband might be having an affair and so decides the best way to trap him is to hire a prostitute to seduce him. A dumber solution to such a dilemma I can not imagine. And of course, the US version follows a very similar plot line with Moore enlisting Seyfried to seduce Neeson and that’s when things go horrib … well, you get the idea. But I think I’ll let the trailer speak for itself. Though, word to the wise, it is a red band so it is NSFW.
