My math might be a bit off on the title statement, but I stand by my current dilemma’s level of difficulty. Over the next two days I have to find a way to watch three movies (The Return of the Living Dead, Scanners and Hausu) with the distinct possibility that I can only make one of them do to my work schedule.

So the question becomes, if I can only watch one of these movies, which one do I choose?

The Return of the Living Dead
Uptown Theatre
October 16 & 17 | Midnight

Scanners
Trylon Microcinema
October 16 & 17 | 7pm & 9:10pm

Hausu (House)
Oak Street Cinema
October 15-17 | 9:30pm

soundunseen10Due to a busy week I am a little behind in posting this, but make no mistake I am very excited about the latest edition of the Sound Unseen Film Festival here in the Twin Cities. For those that don’t know, Sound Unseen is a festival that focuses on films about musicians and artists, making it quite unique. Per usual the schedule looks very interesting, and I’m particularly intrigued by the 1st Annual Secret Screening on October 2nd. This year the festival will be held at four different locations; the Trylon Microcinema, Cedar Cultural Center, Oak Street Cinema and The Walker Art Center.

It has taken some time, but finally the Canadian Zombie but not Zombie film Pontypool will make its theatrical debut here in the Twin Cities at none other then the Oak Street Cinema as part of their Late Night Horror series. The film will play on September 24-26th at 9:30 pm each night.

Minnesota Film Arts is also promising that this will be the first in what they claim will be a weekly horror series. As much as I hope this is true, I’m sure most members of the Twin Cities film community knows better then to get their hopes up when it comes to the Oak Street, and I’m no different. But even though I am unconvinced at the idea of the Oak Street pulling off a horror series, I will still make sure to head over there to watch Pontypool in all its 35mm glory and I hope you do as well.

Of course, once you finally do watch the film be sure to check out my rather long winded essay on the film. It might actually make sense to you then.

movie_projectorI’ve been a bit behind in listing all the various events that have been playing around town the past few weeks, and in an effort to give me less work to do I’m just going to throw several of the upcoming film events into one single post. If this format works I might do it on a regular basis, or maybe I won’t. It’s my site, I’ll be as fickle as I want.

Uptown Midnight Movies

In a slight twist The Uptown is going to start showing midnight movies on Friday and Saturday, and it also looks like The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be returning to the Uptown.
