I have struggled with trying to come up with a suitable intro for this review. With its mix of sex and artistic flare it is a tough nut to pin down, and not typically the sort of thing I can readily compare to my everyday life. You see Marta’s Sex Tape is a very unique viewing experience, one that I wouldn’t not normally sit down to watch. Yet I am quite sure that is why I enjoyed it.

Marta (Pilar Padilla) is deep in debt and unsure how to drag herself out of this mess. Her friends can’t afford to buy any more of her paintings and she can’t get a job, so she decides to take a very unusual approach and make her very own sex tape in the hopes of selling it to a local pornographer. But unfortunately for Marta the tape is far too artsy, and while sex sells, there just isn’t any money in art.

You know what? I never knew that there was a sequel to the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Did you know? I don’t know if anyone knew. In fact, I’m quite certain nobody knows about it. That is why next week I will attempt to remedy that by watching Shock Treatment.

Forgive me if my mind is somewhere else today. It is difficult to select new releases to recommend when I have recently received word that Bruce Campbell, The Chin himself, will be coming to the Twin Cities for the opening of My Name is Bruce. Which means I will get to meet him. This, along with meeting the Coen Brothers a few weeks ago, really makes me so much cooler then any of you. In my mind.

Anyways, it is slim pickings once again for DVD releases on Tuesday. I’m tempted to pick The Happening, which I actually did enjoy, but decided I’d pick a film I wanted to see but only had a split-second release in theaters. That movie being Boy A.

For theatrical releases it seems as if somewhere close to two dozen films are being released this weekend. While Flash of Genius, Appaloosa, Religulous and A Girl Cut in Two all look interesting enough for me to watch at some point, this week I am recommending a movie that I have already seen, enjoyed quite a bit and am quite confident most people will not like at all because nothing really happens in it. This movie is better known as Blindness.

You know what this site needs more of? Zombie films! Now sure, I can understand if you might not agree with me right now. But give me a second to explain just what kind of zombies I am talking about here. These aren’t your standard living undead that bite you and turn you into even more living undead, but rather these are living undead that drank a wine soaked in a pesticide that causes their bodies to have popping pustules and an unquenchable thirst for murder! Oh yeah, these zombies talk too! That’s because next week I’ll be reviewing The Grapes of Death (Les Raisins de la mort).

Please be advised that the trailer is not only NSFW, but absurdly awful.

After watching a few relatively well known, though in-famously so, films I thought it would be nice to seek out a rather obscure film to watch, since probably no one else has. I decided to focus on a film about a dog. An angry dog. A human hating dog. That wants to kill old women, babies and possibly his burgeoning neo-Nazi owner. As an added bonus, the entire film is narrated by this very same dog. Let’s call him Baxter.

Pardon the ridiculous song playing over the trailer, but this was the best I could find.

I am suffering through yet another weak of tepid interest in theatrical new releases. Sure last week had Burn After Reading, but as it stands now it seems that right now their simply isn’t much worth getting excited about in theaters. Unfortunately, it looks like it might be another week or two before the big guns start getting rolled out for Oscar season. As for this week, Battle in Seattle at least looks possibly interesting, though I would be far more interested if it was a documentary on the subject of the 1999 WTO protests rather then a reenactment filled with Hollywood stars. But at least it isn’t a Dane Cook movie.

As for DVD releases, their is a clear winner in this department. It is a movie that I enjoyed quite a bit when I watched it in the theater, but have been eagerly awaiting the inevitable release due to its infinite quotability. This movie drips trendils of awesome wherever it goes. Chuck Norris kneels before this movie. This movie, is The Foot Fist Way. Meditate on that.
