Not wanting to run into the same issues as last week (delay in watching the movie/head cold from Hell), in which I watched Razorback and wrote the column in a span of roughly 24 hours I made plans this week to attend a midnight screening of A Boy and His Dog, and of course, those plans inevitably fell through. But luckily I had a backup plan in place for when my frontdown plan fell apart, and I was able to watch the film just a few days later and well in advance of my self-imposed deadline. Now, in an attempt to have everything written before I move on Monday, I am writing this on the holiest day of the year, my birthday.
My birthday has already gone quite well, as I received my primary gift from my girlfriend several days earlier. That gift being V: The Complete Series. I hadn’t watched the television show since it first aired 24 years ago and was pleasantly surprised to find it held up far better then I could have possibly hoped for, leading me to immerse myself in the DVD set. Then today I was given another surprisingly pleasant gift, that of weather so nice that I almost didn’t need my winter coat!
But, of course, this run of perfection would not last forever. Today also marked the scheduled weekly appearance of one of our schizophrenic patrons. She’s nice enough and she means well but that doesn’t change the fact that she’s is completely convinced that people are living behind her computer screen and they are transforming her face with every word she types. I know this because every time she comes in she corners me and proceeds to tell me the latest horrible event that has happened to her.

It’s been a tough week for writing reviews for me. Coupled with watching some atrocious movies that suck my will to go on, I’ve had to deal with a nasty little cold that makes me want to fall asleep every time I sit down. So as you might see watching a movie hasn’t been the easiest of tasks this week. It has been such a struggle that I didn’t finish the film that I was going to write on this week until late last night, leaving me with little time to write anything worthwhile to post up on the site. So if this week’s review is a little short or bland I am apologizing now for sucking.
I was hoping that this week’s choice would be impervious to my week long doldrums, due to the fact it is an Australian cult film, and there are few things I love more then Australian cult films. Granted this small obsession has only matriculated in the past five years or so, ignoring the first seeds planted by the Mad Max films a good twenty years earlier, but there is just something about them that always catches my attention.
But the choice for this week’s entry was brought about a week earlier after watching Doomsday. After spending 100 minutes enjoying the hell out of that movie I was suffering from a serious craving for genre films from the 80’s. And since Doomsday director Neil Marshall had caused the itch that now needed to be scratched, I thought that t would be a good idea to finally watch a film that he regarded as one of his earlier influences, Russell Mulcahy’s insane vision of the Australian outback, Razorback.

You know what this site really needs? A giant animal movie. Preferably Australian, and with a nasty temper. If it is a man-eater as well that is an added bonus. But no crocodiles or their hunters, I think we’ve all seen enough of them. So whom shall I choose?
Next week’s Where the Long Tail Ends is my first non Region 1 DVD, which means 99.9% of the US has never seen it and up until a few days ago that included me as well. It also has the added bonus of not having a trailer online so instead I’m going to show you a couple scenes of the film instead. What’s the film you ask? Why Australian cult film Razorback, of course.
Clips are after the break due to them being NSFW.
