Over the past few years I’ve become quite the fan of Ozploitation films, and I’ve quite enjoyed the recent resurgence of Australian genre filmmaking. One of my more recent finds was the flawwed, yet still enjoyable, Australian zombie film Undead. And while it was a decent enough independent horror comedy, I must say I found it a bit surprising that the director’s of that film, The Spierig Brothers, were able to secure over $20 million to film their next project. The Australian vampire film Daybreakers.
I’m a bit at a loss on just what kind of film this will be, as the trailers seem to be pushing a glossy action pic, but judging by Undead I wouldn’t be surprised if Daybreakers ends up being a relatively decent budget schlock film. Complete with ridiculous effects, gaping plot holes and over zealous acting. Willem Dafoe is in it after all. And if its a good one, man do I hope it makes it to the multiplex.
Once again James and I sit down to discuss films both old and new, now with TWO working microphones! We dive head first into discussing MOON after our gag order has finally been lifted, let it be known that we get into pretty heavy spoilers, so much so that I will actually be including show notes for this episode to help people that wish to avoid them as best I can.
In this episode you also get to hear about James’ new coworkers picking a peck of pickled … ummm … well you’ll hear for yourself. And of course we cover our theme for this episode, When Animals Attack! We watched Link and Long Weekend, and with such a seemingly low brow sub-genre, it will be interesting to see if either of these films aspire to be anything more then schlocky scare fests that appeal to the lowest common denominator.
And of course at the end of the show we once again subject James to the selection gauntlet. What will be next episodes theme? And will James finally pick a movie that I want to watch?

There are worlds that man should fear to tread. Worlds that man should never see. But in spite of these warnings, several years ago I found myself trapped in a horrifying otherworldly dimension; the women’s restroom at Target in Downtown Minneapolis.
Unlike most Targets the Target in Downtown Minneapolis is two stories tall, making it a bit of an engineering marvel for those of us used to the standard storefront footprint. Now the store really is no different then any other, merely cut in half and stacked on top of one another. But there is something about it that draws people to it. I will say this though; the specially designed escalator for the shopping carts is pretty darn impressive.
But as much as I would like to keep the focus on the physical structure of a big box retailer in a blatant attempt at diverting attention from my terrible decision making skills and inability to pay attention to my surroundings. You see, I left my companion with the simple plan of meeting up a few minutes later in the toy aisle, yet due to my inattentiveness I would not be seen or heard from for over a half hour.
