Though they might claim it was closer to gate crashing, but I digress. On the latest episode I join members of Film Junk, Row Three, The Documentary Blog, Twitch and Quiet Earth to talk about The Warriors and After Hours on The Movie Club Podcast.

Make your way over to the site where you can listen to us discuss whether or not Griffin Dunne is an asshole or just a guy who wants to get home, as well as if the director’s cut of The Warrior’s ruins the film, or that Jay is an idiot for thinking a 1979 film should look like a 1950’s comic rather than a 1986 comic.

In an effort to help promote the group venture that is The Movie Club Podcast as well as keep all discussion on the films over on that site, I’ve locked comments on this post and ask you swing on bye The Movie Club Podcast and download a few episodes and hear what you’ve been missing. And make sure to vote in the poll for the next film to be featured on the podcast.

Most people know that I am a huge fan of Michael Haneke’s films. They are incredible films that manipulate the hell out of the audience, and are breaking all sorts of new grounds for the horror genre. Most wouldn’t consider his films to be horror films, but I can’t see them as anything else. They are so effective are drawing the viewers straight into the lives of his celluloid creations and implicating them along side hem in the terrible events that are foretold on screen.

Unfortunately, Haneke isn’t much of a name here in the US, as his film Funny Games is the closest thing to well known release as he has had so far, which is a shame. Thankfully Europe, and especially France, loves the crap out of his movies, and his most recent film, The White Ribbon, followed up on his past successes by winning the Cannes Film Festival’s top prize this past year, the Palme d’Or.

I don’t know much about the film, other then it is set sometime around World War I and focuses on a German children’s choir. Haneke has proclaimed that the film is about “the origin of every type of terrorism, be it of political or religious nature.” I’m not sure what he is going to do with that setup, nor do I understand a single word in the trailer, but I’m quite confident I’ll be coming out of the theatre absolutely destroyed after watching this film.

Thanks to Twitch for the trailer.

Just when I thought it was safe to go back to surfing through trailers (Bless you The Fantastic Mr Fox, Ninja Assassin and A Serious Man) along comes yet another [REC]² teaser that once again terrifies me to no end. If they keep this up, I might be too damn scared to leave my house and make it out to the cinema.

Thanks to Twitch for the heads up, and hopefully this film sees a release sooner rather then later as their still isn’t a US release date to speak of.

Warning! The following trailer is not safe for anyone at any place or at any time. Enjoy!

One of the real treats of this site is trying to find obscure and weird foreign films to watch. I’ve been watching movies long enough that finding obscure American and English language films is a relatively easy proposition, and on the Internet it has become a bit of a cottage industry unto itself. But finding obscure foreign films? Therein lies a challenge.

Now there is a catch to that as well. If someone wants to know about foreign films soon to be sent over the pond, all one needs to do is read Twitch on a daily basis to find the most up to date films and your work is done. Sure they lean a little heavy to genre films, but nobody covers new foreign releases better then Twitch, and it really isn’t even close.

But I didn’t start Where the Long Tail Ends to compete with Twitch. Myself or anyone else would be a fool to try. Rather, I wanted to find films that were bizarre enough that they never much registered with the majority of film goers when they were initially released. There is a wealth of great films out there just waiting to be found, and while I may not have enjoyed Tierische Liebe or Lunacy all that much, I’m quite glad that I watched them. Of course, then there is Schramm.

I have known about Schramm for about two years. As far as German horror goes it is rather infamous for how disturbing it is which, considering the notoriety of German underground cinema, is rather impressive. Schramm was one of a handful of films that were the initial inspiration for me to start this site. Films that caught my eye but I was reluctant to take a chance on. Schramm is not particularly hard to track down, but until recently wasn’t easy to find without buying a brand new copy either. It would take effort, and considering the pay off meant that one would most likely be revolted and disturbed out of their skull, meant that I wouldn’t be putting much effort into finding Schramm any time soon.

So, of course, it found me.

Bless the wonderful members of Twitch who had the forethought to post this beautifully destructive trailer to what will be no doubt a cult smash of epic proportions. BTW, if you aren’t reading Twitch’s outstanding site on a daily basis you should be.

Oh yeah, this is probably Not Safe for Work. By probably I mean most definitely.
