Mondo has been making great screen printed posters for what seems like eternity, so it should come as little shock that they have once again out done themselves with their latest releases for House of the Devil and Frozen. Granted, I can see why people would wonder why House of the Devil needed a sweet limited edition poster when its original one sheet is already bloody fabulous, but the poster for Frozen is simply outstanding and one of their finest releases to date.

So swing over to Mondo and grab one of these, or dozens of other, great posters to hang on your wall. And if you’re really feeling frisky, pickup this fantastic Werner Herzog t-shirt while you’re at it.

the-imaginarium-of-doctor-parnassus-heath-ledgerNot much has changed with the films being released over the next couple of weeks, and most of the changes to the list seem to be films shuffling around rather than being dropped completely, which is always a welcome sight. That being said, their are a few big changes and additions.

An Education was bumped a week, but will still be opening at The Uptown, as it looks like they think Coco Before Chanel will have a good run their, of which I am less optimistic about. It looks like a decent enough film, but I think it would do better at The Edina then The Uptown, but I digress.

The other big move is pushing the relase of Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, though that is so it can have an exclusive opening at The Uptown, which is fantastic news. I’ve heard good things about Werner Herzog’s latest, and I hope it lives up to the early praise.

As for new additions, their are a few films that I know next to nothing being added to the booking sheet, which include A Single Man, 44 Inch Chest and A Town Called Panic. Hopefully over the coming months I’ll find out a few more details about them. But the big additions are easily Nine and The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus. Both look like potential Oscar contenders, and Imaginarium is one I am in particular coveting the chance to finally see.

Most people know that Werner Herzog is directing a sequel/remake of Bad Lieutenant starring Nicholas Cage, and judging by the trailer Nicholas Cage has been unbridled and allowed to roam free in each take, overacting with reckless abandon, and with Val Kilmer and Brad Dourif on set, it might prove entertainingly infectious. But I have to admit, the trailer just isn’t selling me like it is for the rest of the Internet. The production values look horrible, and the one liners are so absurd that I find it hard to believe they will work in the context of the scenes, though I must admit they play well in the trailer. But while Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans has the more entertaining trailer, and thankfully lacks horrible narration from The Trailer Voice Guy, I really don’t think the movie is going to be worth a crap in the long run.

But I feel differently when it comes to My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done. Granted the trailer is so tired it appears utterly lifeless, but the cast is downright amazing. Headed up by the fantastic Michael Shannon, the rest of the cast boasts Willem Dafoe, Chloë Sevigny, Brad Dourif (In a Herzog film? Who would have guessed?), Michael Peña, and Udo Kier. As if that isn’t enough, it is produced by David Lynch, which would lead one to believe the film has far more up its sleeve then this trailer would ever let on. My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done may have the lesser of the two trailers, but I’d be willing to bet it ends up being the superior film.

How about you? Which film looks better, My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done or Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans?

It’s not often that I find fault with Netflix. I’ve been a subscriber and unabashed fan of the service for over three years now and I am typically hard pressed to find something to quibble over when it comes to them. Oh sure there was that stretch of receiving cracked discs that was beyond frustrating, but due to the sheer ridiculous amount of them that occurred (at least six in a matter of just a few months) that I chalked the issue up to an overzealous mail carrier. Plus Netflix was so quick at sending out replacements that it was hard not to be impressed.

But there is one minor quirk that shows up from time to time that still can aggravate me. Since I live in Minneapolis I happen to be near a hub which results in some surprisingly quick turnaround times. Sometimes, too quick.

I’m not very diligent with my queue, and as a result I am often times moving a film into the number one (Ed note: Make it so!) position the day, or the day after, that I return a movie. But with turnaround times that are often less then a day, my number one (Ed note: Make it so!) selection is sometimes skipped because I have added it too late.

Such an incident occurred last week when my number one (Ed note: Make it so!) selection was skipped in favor of my number two selection, which just so happened to be Dario Argento’s Cat o’ Nine Tails.

Thanks to Netflix sending out the wrong film from my queue I am a bit behind the eight ball when it comes to choosing which film to review for next week. Thus I see no other recourse then to fall back on one of the most insane and passionate film makers working today, Werner Herzog. A director who got shot during an interview and refused to stop. A director who tried to drag a ship over a mountain. A director who plotted to assassinate his leading man.

Thus I am going to review one of his slightly lesser known modern films, one based on a true story and starring Tim Roth and Udo Kier. Yes, next week’s film is Invincible.

Did I mention that he is a director fascinated by insanity in penguins?
