Due to the Packers game this past monday night I was bit late posting this weeks review, but fear not! Next week I should be totally on time with the next one. And with my recent viewing of Babylon A.D. I’ve started to be a bit reminiscent of watching another notorious studio hijacking that derailed what otherwise might have been promising film. Thus next week I will be watching and reviewing the much maligned Ralph Bakshi classic Cool World, in which the studios interferred with the project so much that Bakshi public admits to punching his producer in the mouth. Awesome!

So THAT’S what happened to Cool World. Even as a kid I remember thinking something like “This could have been a lot better.” Maybe it was the love for Roger Rabbit I used to have, but Cool World just didn’t do it for me. I have friends that would strongly disagree to the level of Cool World’s…um…coolness, but I just didn’t get it.

A producer got punched in the mouth? Ouch
As a producer of MUCH SMALLER projects, I try not to derail progress - in fact it seems the projects like to derail themselves! Ha! Maybe I’ll get something done, but until then, I will make sure I can guard myself from stray directorial fists! =)

Cool World did get screwed by coming after Roger Rabbit and Bakshi is not the kind of director to make a fluffy kids movie. The closest he ever came was Wizards, which was about a post apocalyptic world and an evil wizard who uses Nazi propaganda films and technology in an attempt to rule the world. It is so so awesome.
But I’ll save all the Cool World stories until the review, and trust me when I say they are totally insane, as was Bakshi’s original idea for Cool World.
