I'd love to see this as a series, as well. You're right, as a movie it would be redundant. And I agree about Kirkman, his writing goes up and down, but the man clearly has some strong ideas he's playing with. And damn, he knows how to punch the reader in the gut...repeatedly at times.

My father, who pretty much gave up on comic books in general a long time ago, picks up the trades for TWD as soon as they're released. He loves it.

It needs to be a television series - a film would miss the point COMPLETELY. That's what makes the book so compelling: it's a never-ending saga of a zombie infested world. A film would just be another "Night of the Living Dead" or "28 Days Later," and quite frankly we have enough of those.

Yeah, I think you hit it on the nose with the writing. Kirkman does manage to punch the reader in the gut on a regular basis. He definitely has a knack for clever surprises and twists. That carries me through the somewhat lackluster dialogue.

Awesome, glad you are enjoying it and that someone actually listened to me. I'm pretty sure The Walking Dead has been optioned, though I'm not sure if it is for a film or for a movie, and I'd agree Kirkman isn't the best writer working in comics (pick a Brit, any Brit for that) but I think he really handles himself well with this series. The pacing is excellent, and he continually finds new ways to punch the reader in the gut, which is the series' best attribute.

I've been pretty good at just reading the series one TPB at a time. I think it flows better that way, as I think the continual cliff-hangers would drive me batty.

Just thought I'd let you know that, per your recommendation, I am reading this now. About halfway through the series that exists so far. The premise is very compelling (this one is begging to be made into a television series...how come no one has jumped on it yet?) and the characters are wonderful. I do have to admit that the writing bugs me sometimes. While I enjoy the story, I find the writing to be a bit pedestrian, and I constantly find myself going, "Really? He would be acting like that?" For example, the subplot with the crazy "Governor" character (don't spoil anything, btw, I'm still reading it) seems to veer into parody. You can only get so far with the excuse that, "It's the end of the world and there are zombies walking around! How exactly are people supposed to act?!!"

But those are minor gripes. I'm fully addicted to the story and I'm not anticipating reaching the end, at which point I will have to wait for each new issue on a month-to-month basis like you poor saps.

I'm reasonably certain that The Walking Dead is worth any and all nightmares that might result from operating within its pages.

Suck it up and deal TB!

That won't work. We went to see, I think it was, Dawn of the Dead at the cinema and Traveling Blackbird was complaining about nightmares for the rest of the week. He's very sensitive to the whole zombie thing.

Why am I not reading "The Walking Dead"? Because zombies scare the bejeezus out of me. I'm reading "Invincible" and "The Astonishing Wolf-Man" though... does that count?

I love how your sidebar leaves out the "reading" and simply questions accusingly, "Why aren't you the walking dead?"

Awesome.

Oh. Hi, Matt.
