Blue Sky wants to show you something Epic

It has kind of surprised me how Epic hasn’t gotten more attention. Granted, the film isn’t due to come out until next summer, and Blue Sky Studios (creators of Ice Age and Rio) aren’t exactly the kind of animation studio that excites people, but they seem to be consistently improving with their animation and story telling to the point where Epic looks like it might be the must see animated film of next year.

Not helping matters is the fact that their still isn’t a very good trailer available online, at least not one with high enough resolution that can show just how magnificent the animation is in the film. On top of that you have the lack of 3D, and the trailer has more than a few show off 3D moments that also help sell the hell out of the finished product. Perhaps even most exciting is the fact that the film is still almost a year out, meaning the it is still only just starting its post-production work, and that the animation will only improve as the release date nears.

Now this doesn’t look to be as ground breaking as Rango (either in terms of visuals or storytelling), but it looks like it could be a sumptuous feast for the eyes, which is rare treat from an American animation studio. If the story can be at least passably interesting and entertaining, Epic could be one of the real mainstream treats of 2013.
