High & Low Brow – Trapped!

Posted on Aug 2, 2017 by | 2 comments

And we’re back!

Well, this took us a little longer to post the Trapped! episode of High & Low Brow than we hoped. You see, James is now an international man of mystery. James went on a trip to Canada and so we had to plan around that monumental excursion. If you want to know what James was up to in Canada, you are in luck. You’ve got an hour of notes to open the show. All delivered in the kind of meticulous detail we all expect of Mr. Gilham.

It’s been a while since we’ve had an episode where we have had two films that approach a theme so differently. First up is the underseen gothic, noir thriller, Gaslight. This movie was jam packed with star power (George Cukor, Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer, Joseph Cotton, Angela Lansbury and Dame May Whitty).  It also went on to earn a host of Oscar nominations, but its not as widely known or talked about today as some of its contemporaries. Next, is the Kickstarter funded passion project from horror auteur Rob Zombie, 31. I dare you to find two films that are more different, but they both find their own way to explore the Trapped! theme.

I review movies. I run a movie theatre. I annoy people. I let my dogs lick my face whenever they want. Sometimes I'm even a halfway decent human.

  1. I can attest from my observations and experience with British Columbia/US border security (aside from looks or racial profiling), Canadian border guards tends to be more picky about Canadians crossing back home than American security. Which originally seemed quite odd to me.
Wonder if you looked or acted nervous when questioned, James. Sometimes being too honest is bad.

    • I was more excited than nervous, but I imagine both of those look the same to a border guard. Next time, I’ll try to give simpler answers. Being detained was a bit of a chore, but given the state of the world, I’m willing to roll with it. 🙂
