Still Watching the Skies: Episode 53 “The Boys From Brazil”
Nat, Cody, and Robert take a Nazi hunting trip to 1978 with THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL. Based on a potboiler by Ira Levin, THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL was a star studded, conspiracy thriller that hoped to capture the box office magic of films like THE OMEN and MARATHON MAN.
Gregory Peck stars as Dr. Josef Mengele, notorious Nazi scientist with a plot to bring back Adolf Hitler involving the deaths of over 90 low level officials in a variety of countries that just so happen to be the fathers of particular blue eyed sons.
The only thing that stands in his way is elderly Nazi hunter Ezra Lieberman played by Laurence Olivier in a very showy performance. A very showy Oscar nominated performance. We have a lot to say about the performances, old men wrestling on film, genetic engineering, child performances, Jerry Goldsmith, Franklin J. Schaffner, and a whole lot more.
Following that discussion, we have a short discussion over 2018 in film. Robert’s list can be found in Part 2 of the The Directors Club roundup of favorite films of 2018. You’ll want to be sure to give that epic a listen.

Next month, we turn our attention to Stanley Donen’s 1980 science fiction film SATURN 3. Starring Kirk Douglas, Farrah Fawcett, and Harvey Keitel it’s developed something of a cult following. We hope you’ll join us.
