V/H/S promo box captured by Minneapolis genre film nerd

My friend John over at the Lagoon just sent me a quick note on the V/H/S promo box he and the other employees at the Lagoon were able to snag courtesy of Magnet. Like most genre fans he was pretty excited about the promo boxes that have been popping up in various locales and he wanted to give everyone a heads up on what was discovered inside:

So, I was given a promo box from Hugh Wronski from Landmark Theatres today. I was really excited, as I had seen a few of these online, and Magnet always does a great job with promotional materials.

The boxes that I had seen online were white packages with a VHS on top, covered in fake blood. The contents inside were mysterious and offered (I’m guessing) small indications of what to expect from the film.

The box I received, however, contained VHS copies of Hellraiser: Inferno and Scream. Also included were two T-shirts, and a small flyer / poster. Now, I like Hellraiser and Scream as much as the next fan, but needless to say, I was a bit disappointed.

I think the idea of seeing a compilation of horror shorts that were shot on VHS is pretty enticing. Likewise, Magnet is pretty great about choosing their films. I am pretty interested in this, and in their release of [REC] 3, which will be showing at the Trylon later this month. However, hopefully they’ll make these little promo packs a bit more exciting in the future.
V/H/S opens at the Lagoon on October 5th.

V/H/S is a POV, found-footage horror film from the perspective of America’s top genre filmmakers. In V/H/S, a group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house in the countryside and acquire a rare tape. Upon searching the house, the guys are confronted with a dead body, a hub of old televisions and an endless supply of cryptic footage, each video stranger and more inexplicable than the last…

V/H/S is currently available on VOD and will be released in theatres on Oct 5th.

Watched this on VOD Friday night, and it had some great moments. I’ve never liked Ti West’s stuff before, but I thought his entry was the strongest. It’s no REC2, though.
